[edit] Be Careful
- As posted from another site where an anonymous talks to an ex-OSA member. Be very careful people.
"I've been following this very closely - can't wait to see what happens on Feb 10. I wouldn't put it past them, but they won't be able to get someone to every raid. There are OSA HQs in Florida and L.A., so those locations will be in the most danger of being infiltrated. Smaller protests, not likely. OSA wouldn't trust anyone but real insiders with that task.
Protection from this: don't have a non-speaking, silent protest, as is being discussed. Most OSA infiltrators stand out like FBI agents at Defcon, if you know what to look for.
- HEADS UP ANON! As you know, the Co$ has attempted to place a restraining order upon Anonymous (a restraining order normally filed by women suffering from abuse, lol). Part of the restraining order includes a list of 20 non-anons.
For a good run-down, check out the St. Petersburg Times: Restraining Order, HAH Matt Dakan, who admits to never being a member of Anonymous, is one of the names mentioned on the list. Read the article, and realize as an Anon you can learn from others' mistakes. Realize that you 'Don't do what Dakan Did.'
i) never tell a reporter your name! Who do you think you are, anyway? Trying to grab some attention for yourself? Your name is Anonymous, tell noone your name! It's likely just a Scilon (as it was in this case) looking to ID you. ii) Dakan arrived at the protest in his car. Scilons then photo'd his license plate. Instead of running the risk of being tagged, consider arriving by public transport.
Actually, your biggest danger is *not* that they'll try to incite violence, but that they'll send in a private investigator to go hang out with you guys afterwards, pretend to be one of you and wait for you to take your masks off. I noticed no one's talking about this on the boards. Can you please pass this info around? OSA doesn't want you arrested yet. They want to know who you are. Won't be hard for him/her to take pictures of you all, either, since everyone's bringing a camera.
Protection from this: Only leave the protests with long-time friends. If you have to leave the protest with an Anon you have just met, don't take your masks off in front of each other."
[edit] This Warning From Ex-OSA Officer
IF ANYONE does ANYTHING that is violent, illegal, bad---EVERYONE should IMMEDIATELY step aside from the person or persons, take a PHOTO of them.
IF they don't stop right there---DON'T get into it: CALL THE COPS. That way IF it's OSA____their asses will be fried. IF not, hey---it's a person who probably will stop--once separated. IF you make that clear:
1) Few will pull anything weird, as they'll KNOW they alone will be held responsible
2) It EXPONENTIALLY decreases the chances of OSA joining in.
[edit] Documenting Stalking
- Documenting stalking: That said, don't go straight home either in case you'll be stalked by operatives. Document stalking for win. Have a plan to make stalkers lose your trail. Don't wear anything that identifies you, and park your car well away from observation by both fellow anons and scifags..
[edit] Protecting Yourself
Scientology is notorious for datamining skills rivaled only by Anonymous and the NSA. Your IPs have been logged. your numbers have been flagged in their PBX's. Your photos have been taken. Your voice has been recorded. OH NOES! There are a few things you can do to protect yourself. They fall into 3 categories: Data obfuscation, Voice masking, and local encryption.
[edit] Data Obfuscation
First, your IP and your phone number. If you want to mask the source of your attack, USE THE TOR NETWORK. I cannot emphasize this enough. It is only vlnerable to timing attacks, and too many of us would be using it in order for these tactics to be useful. So use them. Also, if you want to have plausible deniability for all of your traffic, run a TOR node. Sure, you might be helping terrorists and pedophiles, but ALL of that traffic is plausibly deniable.
All documentation for using TOR or participating as a node can be found on their main site.
Second, join Freenet. This network is untraceable. No one knows who posted anything. No one knows where anything is hosted. No one know WHAT they are hosting. No one knows who passes them data. This network is hardened. It has CRAZY overhead, both in the protocol and in the local processes hemands on the processor, but isn't anonymity worth it? Run a node. We can organize the Anonymous-only network in IRC. The Freenet wikicontains everything you need to get a node up and running, and begin connecting.
- NOTE:
IF YOU ARE RUNNING A FREENET NODE TO PARTICIPATE IN CHANOLOGY, ONLY CONNECT WITH THE NETWORK THROUGH CHANOLOGY ROOMS. DO NOT JOIN THE PUBLIC FREENET.
Third, get a prepaid phone. Never load it with a credit card. Use cash. The can only trace you by tower, and you can ALWAYS throw it away.
Bonus: If you post any digital media on the Internet, make sure you scrub the metadata such as EXIF. Here is one way.
[edit] Voice masking
Don't speak. Just don't do it. Even fucking with pitch and tone digitally is reversible. Use a voice sim. Always. Or a soundboard. But never, ever, use your real voice.
- See Guidelines_for_Anonymous_Communiques for information on how to setup Text-to-Speech software on you computer.
Protip: Yes, it is digitally reversible, however, if you record while playing a white noise track at the same time, then use ALOT of subtle effects, THEN do a large pitch shift downwards, the resulting file will be extremley low quality if someone trise to nullify the shift. OH GUISE WHY NOT MAKE A SILLY VOICE B4 EFFEX
[edit] Local encryption
Once you have the secret DOX, move them to an encrypted filespace. Truecrypt is amazing. This way, if you already leaked them identifying data, and they take you PC, they have nothing to show for it. Truecrypt (along with Freenet, TOR, and disposable cell phones) provides built-in plausible deniability. Take advantage of these tools.
The Truecrypt Documentation is fairly complete, and should be a great help.
[edit] Worst Case Senario (Data)
Get a copy of Dans Boot and Nuke DBAN, stick it on a floppy, cd or other media and have it ready. Stick it in a boot to it for a quick emergency file deletion. Wipes the drive of all data to an unrecoverable level, ideal for those "Oh Shit" moments. Second only to the almighty sludge hammer. DBAN
