[edit] April 12, Operation: RECONNECT
Operation: Reconnect is the next step for our protests. The primary goal of this protest is to spread the news of the disconnection between Scientologists and family members for their absurd secrecy, and to try to reconnect families from within the cult.
You can view the video describing Operation: Reconnect here.
If you are raiding in a location where there has been any large turnout (more than you can count one-by-one) GET A PERMIT. Start on this as soon as enturb comes back up and you can coordinate it. Once someone has the permit, they need to scan it, black out the personal info, and post it on enturb for other people to print and bring to the raid. It's a good idea to also designate a well-trafficked overflow location for people to go to if the crowd gets too big. Let's have no repeats of Atlanta and Chicago.
Has a common start time been decided on yet? There was some confusion with the start time for the Ides, so it may be best to stick with 11am. Thoughts, suggestions, complaints or butthurt?
Stick with 11am
- Stick with 11am. it's been like that for all the protests so far. It's a good time.
- 11 A.M. is kinda early....
- Re: "11 A.M. is kinda early...." Hitting the noon rush of traffic/pedestrians is an ideal time. 11am is plenty late enough as it is.. Don't be so lazy
- Point taken....11am it is.
[edit] MAY 10th OPERATION ???
ok so this time were focusing on fairgame? we need chants. last time in manchester we had nothing apart from cult *point to church* cop *point to police* brainstorm people and do it now. also the youtube account anonymousfaguk (me) will hopefully have three scientology advertising dvds up on wednesday/thursday one about phyciatary "the industry of death" one on "panorama exposed" basicly slagging of john sweeney. and "the basics" introduction dvd. keep an eye out they will be up to be picked apart.
sorry these dvds are proving harder to rip than normal dvds. silly scientologists.
[edit] Press Release
If you have press contacts - here is the PDF of the latest press release from Anonymous. Download and send (or just link) to as many media outlets as possible for maximum lulz and media coverage. It explains all about Operation Reconnect as well as a quick background about us and our cause
- The part describing Anonymous is incorrect. There is no single "Anonymous" group. Anonymous is just a label for whoever chooses to call themselves as such. We (that is, the Project Chanology Anonymous) cannot take credit for the Hal Turner raids or the arrest of Chris Forcand. Those were done by a different group of people calling themselves Anonymous. (Note however, that many of those people are also part of this Anonymous.)
[edit] Regarding the Press
Due to a seeming lack of media coverage on the epic win that was the Ides of March, one lesson learned is that we need to treat the press LIKE ROYALTY.
When contacting the press:
- Speak nicely; use a nice voice.
- Tell them about the activities; PROTIP: Drop in the fact that there will be free shit such as caek, but DON'T make it look like a bribe. Example: "Yeah, it's gonna be big - we're having a cake stall and everything!" DROP IT IN SUBTLEY, LIKE THAT.
- Inform them of the best places to park, and even offer to pay the meter if needs be.
- Reveal to them that we are protesting against the human rights violations, child abuse caused by Disconnect policies, etc. Appeal to their hearts with this.
- WARNING: Some TV Stations and papers were distortive and used falsehood; some even took the piss. DO NOT CONTACT THEM AGAIN. An example, for Ausfags, is CHANNEL 9. Others were just misinformed, ABC and the Church of the Anonymous, those should still be ok to talk to.
[edit] Slogans, etc
Again, the primary goal of this protest is to spread the news of the disconnection between Scientologists and family members, and to try to reconnect families from within the cult.
It would be good to minimise the Us vs Them situation which occurs when Anon gets mocking or cliquey. Less memes?
- MOAR - If you want particular slogans at the next protest then bring them but stop bitching about memes because it REALLY ISN'T SUCH A BIG PROBLEM.
- MOAR - NEVER FORGET WHO YOU ARE. MEMEs are a part of Anonymous and not even one media-reaction had a problem with that. Memes ae fpr motivation and lulz. I think it could be the reason why they mention us so often in the newspapers worldwide, because ist crazy.
- Weak moar - Memes are not intrinsically "part of Anonymous". They are here if you want them to be here. And we do, because they are good. But understand this point - if everyone chose to dislike them then they wouldn't be here.
- MOAR - Memes are fun. They're a way of keeping up morale. I don't think any Anonymous really gets off on protesting; if they did, they would join a group of professional protestfags like MoveOn. Part of what had made these protests so successful is that people who don't usually protest actually want to come to them. You don't get people out in below-zero weather just by the strength of your position.
- Neutral/Weak less - While memes are a defining icon of Anonymous, try to use memes in such a way that the general public can understand the meaning of your platform. For example, "HONK FOR GREAT JUSTICE" is perfectly fine, so is "SCIENTOLOGY'S CLOSED DUE TO THETANS." "IT'S A TRAP" is especially useful. However, the public as a whole is very unlikely to know who, say, Pedobear is. To a non-tard, a cutified bear means nothing. And for gawd sakes do something with the longcats besides "LONGCAT IS LOOOONG." While we're definitely trying to have fun in the process of educating the public about Scientology, don't forget the latter purpose in pursuit of the former.
Therefore:
- Freedom Is Out Here
- Phone Home
- We are not your enemy
- Walk out now! (we have cake) (4/12 will we?)- we will cake is delicious and must be brought to every protest to provide sustenance
- Restore, Reunite, Reconnect.
- Leave NOW OR NEVER, It's your choice
- Your parents miss you, Scientology will miss your MONEY
- We want Becky Thirsten (Manchester only)
- Your mother misses you
- Call dad
- Your children need you
- Reconnect with your family
- Screw you guys; I'm going home! (suggestion)
- Get in ARC with your family (scieno-speak for communication)
- Is This What You Joined Scientology To Do?
- Blow like the wind -- there is support for you
- Love is free -- Scientology is not!
- Doubt is good -- freedom is better
- Can we still be friends?
- Dad?

[edit] An Example: THIS IS WHY
This video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqsM6extFXs is of an interview of two parents of a Scientologist. They are clearly very emotional. Digg the living shit out of this link http://digg.com/world_news/Manchester_interviews_Scientologist_parents
How do I put this in the chart/table on the main page?
[edit] Dates for May
If we could decide on a date for May that would be awesome for the flyers. The 17th looks ok as again middle of the month on a Saturday though Sunday may be better as its the day most people are off work? well anyway its just a suggestion. - your pal emo-nymous
- Switching to Saturday contributed to at least a part of the massive increase in turnout, so I think we should keep it on Saturday's (though we might want to consider trying a weekday protest over the summer). In the meantime I think that the 17th will be the likely next date... but let's not put the cart in front of the horse.
- We might want to switch back and forth between Saturdays and Sundays to minimize scheduling conflicts of Anonymous (i.e. Sunday school and SAT classes for underage b&, etc, etc.)
- Some religiousfags like me can't make Sunday protests due to church. And I'm building a large portion of support in my church, Saturdays work best.
- Might I suggest skipping May so people don't treat these events like "oh it's another protest let's take the south avenue instead."
- 5/10 looks/sounds really good.
- Whatever date we pick, Saturdays are best.
- In addition to the religious, many anon are collegefags, myself included. As such, we love to procrastinate, so if the protest lands on a Saturday, we still have Sunday to catch up.
One way to avoid protest fatigue would be to focus the May raid on front groups (CCHR, Narconon, WISE, Celeb Center etc.) and not just the churches.
- on 3/15 in NYC, we went to the main church and then celeb center. Secondary targets are good, but main churches should come first imo.
I think a month apart is the way to go with the protests. People dont get tired with it and its not too far apart for keeping the momentum going. Though we should perhaps consider taking a two month break to really REALLY build a momentum to deal the final blow to cos. But thats far away from now.
like i say im only thinking ahead so we could inform people on the flyer though there should be certain people who like vote on a date it would probly be hard though as we are all "anonymous" i was thinking if email addresses were made purely for this reason say ten and put forward then it would be easier than everyone screaming random days of a month. as a show of non-sci-faggory mine is anonymousfaguk@googlemail.com whether or not this idea goes ahead thank you for listening - emo-nymous
We may want to find days we expect to be a slow news day in order to maximize media coverage. On 3/15 we got pushed out of the news by a lot of other events. You can't really predict the type stuff that happened on 3/15, like the tornadoes in the southeast and China going apeshit over those Tibet protesters, but if there's something big planned that we can't piggyback on, we should avoid that day.
^Listen to that man, slow news day is good. The thing about focusing on the front groups seems like it would detract more because for one you aren't necessiarrly focusing on reconnecting members with their families (READ: Operation Reconnect). Also by hitting the heart you're also affecting the front groups too, the concept of hitting the heart of the enemy comes in play here.
What about a focus on government buildings for May... with a message of government action (eg. tax-exempt status, investigations, hearings, anti-mask laws, etc.)? It might be interesting to see if the scions try to stage a counter-protest at those locations, which could make for massive lulz. update: looks like someone proposed something similar on the Chanology Talk Page
We might want to consider having the protests world wide every other month but have each sub group decide, for mini protests.
[edit] LESSONS LEARNED FROM FEB 10 / MAR 15
(add moar info from the march /r/aids)
Don't forget what we learned from February 10th and March 15th, and use those lessons to make April 12th an even greater win!
DO's:
- Many areas require protest permits. Make sure multiple people have permits to increase the odds that one of the protesters that shows up will possess one. Recurring issue. If theres more than two people showing up, get a permit
- Bring lots of signs! if you're good at making signs, bring a few, so those who forgot can hold something. Make sure the writing on the signs is easy to read from passing cars.
- Wear proper attire. If it's cold, be sure to bring lots of warm clothes. Hot chocolate and/or snacks. If it's sunny, bring sunscreen and a hat. Think ahead. Sunburn /frostbite is no fun.
- Bring lots of fliers if the weather is good. If it's 50 below, don't bother as pedestrian traffic will likely be minimal.
- Bring batteries, food, and water. You will get tired, hungry and thirsty, also it's a hassle to run to a store to get batteries when something epic is going to happen.
- Consider a mask alternative, as masks got hot and stuffy. Bandannas / sunglasses are another option (at least bring them "just in case") Lead paint protective masks work great for the cold.
- Bring a Nintendo DS for pictochat cross team communication and organization. Please keep irrelevant material off the channels.
- If it helps, delegate out who brings what in your group if you can. Bigger backpacks carry moar food.
- Think about what to write on flyers and signs, especially in what order! If you start with "Scientology", some people will read no further and think we support the Co$ !!!1 Start with "Stop Scientology" or "Blackmail / Bribery / Murder" (or another negative word) instead.
Dont's:
- Hate signs were not accepted in most cities. "Honk if you hate Scientology" signs were often removed. Instead try replacing the word "hate" with "disapprove".
- For the love of God, don't bring weapons, plastic or otherwise. I cant believe a torontofag tried bringing a plastic AK-47, but he was made to leave by the police. Retard.
- Don't restrict traffic, walk in roads, vandalize property, etc. Wasn't a big problem on 2/10, but its good to keep it in mind. This includes going up to the co$ windows and peering in at the people inside. Lots of lulz, but they can use it as grounds to break up the /r/aid.
- Litter. If you drop fliers, pick them up. Nobody wants to have to clean after your mess. Police will be a LOT more receptive if we have a reputation for keeping our protests clean.
- Blocking the sidewalk or drivers views is a bad idea. We had a lot of problems with drivers not being able to see around us. We don't want to cause accidents, we want to raise awareness. Make sure that at any time a pedestrian can walk from one corner to another without being jostled.
- Meme abuse. There is a long list of chants, etc. as suggestions. Repeating the same chant / meme every 10 mins does not look very profesional
- Don't load fliers with irrelavant information. Get to the point, people tend to tl;dr and trash fliers.
[edit] Increasing Turnout
GET SOME FRIENDS TO COME WITH YOU
Value is numbers people. Some fags may not have many friends, so if you're one of those fags, try printing some flyers up and sticking them somewhere, but not in people's mailboxes, with information about Scientology, and details on the raid. Be professional, most people don't know what a rickroll is ffs but they should.
NOT JUST FRIENDS - FAMILY, COLLEAGUES... FRIENDS
This campaign is working because this is an issue that everyone agrees on. Do your parents or siblings know about the cult? If you explain the truly unique and revolutionary campaign you're involved - and explain the the murderous, free-speech suppressing, litigious organisation you're fighting - a lot of 'older' people will be inspired. It will surprise you how many people will be invigorated by this movement or some aspect of it. TELL EVERYBODY YOU KNOW. If you can't get to an org, organise a protest in your own town. PEOPLE WILL JOIN YOU. DON'T UNDERESTIMATE THIS.
While the turnout was better than anything we could have hoped for, a lot of anons have commented that they were disappointed with there being low turnouts in several cities, and at any rate we of course must work hard to better our turnout for the Ides.
I've had the opportunity to volunteer as a ground-worker with a number of political campaigns, and the keys to getting out our message and cranking up support are twofold:
- Organization and Communication - "Grass roots" campaigns work... this is a fact... now, obviously there are some strategies we can't use effectively, case in point going door to door (people in suits and masks knocking on doors = creepy as shit), and running ads is neither feasible nor effective. It is vital that we get our message out there, and more importantly make a positive, lasting impression on those we're communicating with.
- A reasonable compromise has been suggested by some of the IRC organizers: Mass mailing--- Many companies offer services to send large numbers of small, simple mailers to addresses in your area. If you can contact one (and can afford it) send out a large stock of simple, postcard sized mailers or pamphlets summarizing our efforts, raising awareness of Church crimes, or advertising the March 15th protest.
- Alert Christian groups and other religious organizations in your area about Scientology's view on their religion - being falsehoods, lies, etc. Support from these organizations gives us greater turnout and possibly greater resources. Additionally, mainstream religions protesting alongside us makes us look less like a bunch of internet freaks and gives us a measure of credibility. It also increases the chances we will be given greater media coverage. A good example is that the DC Anon had a priest protesting with them.
- Also, when recruiting members of other religions, mention that Scifags believe all other religions where planted in peoples heads by Xenu, at least one member of a local church actually considers this shit a crusade.
THE RAIDS HAVE TO BE PEACEFUL. ABOVE ALL ELSE, PEACEFUL
In regards to notifying other organized religions: This is actually something I had discussed with the group I operate out of. We had decided that getting other religious groups involved would be to our benefit as it achieve four things:
1) Hopefully, with any luck, these groups will cleave to us, and voice thier opinions in more mainstream methods not currently available to a faceless mass. 2) Will bring us more media coverage, as we all know that a group of pissed of *insert religious group here* grabs the media spotlight like a whore clutching a co... 3) Remove the stigmatism that we are simply bashing a religion. How can we be religious fascists, if we work well with other organized religions? 4) Show we are, in fact, a peaceful group with a genuine concern for our fellow man.
And I know I said only 4 things, but there is a 5th, but it goes without saying.
5) Generate epic win and massive lulz.
Given all this, we have made plans to get into contact with the various relgious leaders in our area and discuss with them Co$'s nature, the human rights violations, and the threat they pose to other religions. Once we have our mailer packet laid out completely, we will find a method to host it online for others to put to use.
^copypasta'd from the march 15 planning page
^Perhaps we should have a section with suggestions on how people can
help the protest from rural areas where they can not actively
paricipate in the fun?
